Classes are taught by volunteer members of the congregation, often working in teaching teams. Students generally have the same teachers for the whole school year. Sunday School is taught in between the church services 9:30-10:30 AM.

First Lutheran provides a Sunday School ministry for 3 year-olds through 12th graders so that:

  1. Students learn God’s word for them and their lives.
  2. Parents can keep their baptismal promise to “provide for their child’s instruction in the Christian faith.”
  3. Students experience the love of God through other believers (their teachers and classmates) and that students develop Christian friendships.
  4. Students develop relationships with caring adults.

Sunday School at First Lutheran is a ministry that encourages and enables teachers and students to live out our stated mission.

Sunday School participants “Pray Together”

  • As they hear and read scripture and apply it to their lives
  • As they worship God through music time
  • As worship and church school are tied together through common scripture

Sunday School participants “Focus on Family”

  • As they build a Christian community with teachers and classmates
  • As they care for one another
  • As they pray for one another

Sunday School participants “Have Kindness, Caring and Compassion Towards Others”

  • As they give financial gifts to support ministry beyond themselves
  • As they participate “hands-on” in service projects
  • As they gather together. . .because God has promised, “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them. “

Because both worship and learning are important for Christians of all ages, First Lutheran intentionally schedules separate worship and learning times. Through hearing a Bible story and doing supporting activities, students become rooted and grounded in the Word of God, grow in faith and grace, and become stronger disciples of Jesus Christ.
